BPAC hosts first Delta KidNote event
CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Bologna Performing Arts Center (BPAC) at Delta State University hosted the Mississippi Book Festival's first-ever Delta KidNote event on August 28, featuring award-winning children's author Andrea Beaty, creator of the beloved "Rosie Revere, Engineer" book series. The event drew nearly 2,000 young students from local Pre-K through fifth grade classes, offering them an exciting opportunity to engage with Beaty's stories and ignite a love for reading.
The KidNote was split into two sessions: the first at 9:30 a.m. for Pre-K through first grade, and the second at 11:30 a.m. for second through fifth grade students. After enjoying a lively presentation by Beaty, each student received a personal copy of one of her books to take home, creating lasting memories and furthering their literary journey.
Lauren Powell, Executive Director of the BPAC, expressed enthusiasm about the event's success, saying, "It's great to see partnerships that foster literary engagement and provide students with unique opportunities. The BPAC looks forward to hosting more of the Mississippi Book Festival's KidNote series at our campus in the future."
Ellen Daniels, Executive Director of the Mississippi Book Festival, highlighted the collaborative efforts that made this event possible, saying, "Today, we dove into the uniqueness of everyone's individual identity, the incredible hard work of both educators and students, and we celebrated the joy and beauty of reading. This incredible day would not have been possible without the generous support of our funders for the first-ever Delta KidNote. Almost a year ago, bringing KidNote to the Delta was just a dream. A shared passion amongst groups doing incredible and critical work in the region made the dream a reality."
Key supporters of the event included Delta Health Alliance, Feild Co-Operative Association, Delta Group, Friends of Washington County Community Foundation, Crossroads Economic Partnership, John H. Cocke, Kelly and Ted Connell, Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area, and the Bologna Performing Arts Center. Additionally, volunteers such as Rhonda Lewis, Vice President of Education Programs at Delta Health Alliance, joined in the excitement, personally handing out books to the students.
Daniels emphasized the significance of the KidNote series, saying, "Our goal at the Mississippi Book Festival is to have a lasting impact and foster educational opportunities. Today, we saw that mission on display."
