"A Choral Evening in Cleveland" marks debut of new DSU Vocal Ensemble Director
CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University invites the community to "A Choral Evening in Cleveland," a captivating concert on Wednesday, November 13, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bologna Performing Arts Center (BPAC). This special event will celebrate local choral talent, featuring performances by the Delta State University Singers and the Cleveland Central High School Choir. The concert is a collaborative effort between Delta State's new Vocal Ensemble Director, Tracy Hilaire, and Cleveland Central's Choral Director, Delta State alumna Latoya Calhoun, class of '22.
In addition to the Delta State and Cleveland Central ensembles, the evening will showcase the exceptional talent of vocal groups from O'Bannon High School, Greenwood-Leflore High School, Greenville High School, Mississippi Delta Community College, and Humphreys High School, with each group presenting three selections. "This concert is an opportunity for students in the Cleveland and Delta area to perform at the BPAC with Delta State," said Hilaire. "Cleveland Central initially invited us to perform in their gym, but we decided to host them here, creating a memorable experience for all involved."
This event also marks the debut of Hilaire as Delta State's Vocal Ensemble Director. A New Orleans native, Hilaire brings extensive experience in choral conducting and a strong commitment to music education. He previously taught at Tiffin University and Defiance College and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Music Ministry with a focus on choral conducting at William Carey University's Winters School of Music.
Reflecting on his new role at Delta State, Hilaire remarked, "It feels good to be back in the South, but it feels even better knowing that my calling to inspire students and future leaders will be here at Delta State. I am inspired by the old Chinese proverb, 'Make those who are near happy and those who are far will come.'"
Dr. Eddie Lovin, Vice President for Student Affairs, shared his excitement for Hilaire's arrival, stating, "Tracy's dedication to music and choral activities is truly commendable. His persistence, faith, and dedication make him an outstanding role model and leader."
Delta State University encourages the community to come out on November 13 to welcome Tracy Hilaire and enjoy an unforgettable evening of choral music. Admission is free and open to the public.
Cutline: Tracy Hilaire has been named the new Vocal Ensemble Director at Delta State University.
