Delta Music Institute named a Billboard Top Music Business School for fifth consecutive year

CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta Music Institute (DMI) at Delta State University has once again been recognized by Billboard magazine as one of the nation's Top Music Business Schools, marking the fifth consecutive year the program has received the distinction.

DMI has now appeared on Billboard's prestigious list each year from 2022 through 2026, reinforcing the program's growing national reputation for preparing students for careers in the rapidly changing entertainment industry.

"Being recognized by Billboard for five consecutive years is an extraordinary honor for the Delta Music Institute and for Delta State University," said Dr. Richard Tremmel, Director of the Delta Music Institute. "This recognition reflects the dedication of our faculty and staff, the accomplishments of our students and alumni, and our continued commitment to providing students with relevant, hands-on preparation for careers throughout the entertainment industry."

The Delta Music Institute offers a Bachelor of Science in Entertainment Industry Studies with concentrations in Audio Engineering Technology, Music Business, and Live Entertainment Technology. The interdisciplinary program combines traditional classroom instruction with extensive experiential learning in recording, live production, artist development, entertainment business, and emerging technologies.

Students at DMI work in professional production environments that include four recording studios, a Dolby Atmos immersive audio facility, live sound and production systems, a mobile recording facility, and other industry-standard technologies. Students also gain practical experience through internships, productions, industry events, artist collaborations, and DMI's student performance ensembles.

The addition of the Live Entertainment Technology concentration in Fall 2026 further expands DMI's curriculum into areas such as concert production, live sound, lighting, video, staging, and other technologies that support the growing live entertainment sector.

Located in the Mississippi Delta, a region with an unparalleled musical legacy, DMI provides students with both a connection to music history and preparation for the technologies and business models shaping the future of the entertainment industry.

"Five straight years of recognition tells us that what we are doing is being noticed beyond our campus and our region," Tremmel said. "More importantly, it gives our students validation that they are studying in a program that is respected nationally by the industry they hope to enter."

Billboard's annual Top Music Business Schools feature highlights colleges and universities that are preparing students for careers across the modern music and entertainment industries.
