Delta State congratulates alumna Celeste Embrey Wilson on Mississippi Supreme Court appointment

Cleveland, MS (07/29/2026) — CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University congratulates alumna Celeste Embrey Wilson on her appointment to the Mississippi Supreme Court by Governor Tate Reeves.

Wilson, a Southaven resident, will represent Northern District 3, Place 1. Her appointment fills the vacancy created by the confirmation of Justice Robert P. Chamberlin to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi.

"Judge Wilson has dedicated her career to serving the people of Mississippi with integrity, fairness and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law," said Reeves. "Her extensive judicial and prosecutorial experience, proven leadership within Mississippi's court system and deep understanding of our legal system make her an outstanding choice to serve on the Mississippi Supreme Court. I am confident she will faithfully serve the people of our state."

Wilson currently serves as a circuit court judge for Mississippi's 21st Judicial District, which serves DeSoto County. She has held that position since February 2017, initially serving in the 17th Circuit Court District, which covered five counties, including DeSoto County.

Before joining the circuit court, Wilson served as DeSoto County Court judge from January 2009 through February 2017. She previously spent seven years as an assistant district attorney for Mississippi's 17th Judicial District, prosecuting cases throughout North Mississippi.

Her legal career spans more than two decades of public service and judicial leadership.

"I am deeply honored and humbled by this appointment and grateful for the confidence Governor Reeves has placed in me," said Wilson. "I look forward to serving the people of Mississippi with integrity and an unwavering commitment to our Constitution and the rule of law."

Wilson earned her bachelor's degree from Delta State and her Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.

Her term on the Mississippi Supreme Court will begin Aug. 1, 2026, and continue until the position is filled through a special election.
