Delta State to host Stock Market Game Workshop for K-12 educators
CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University will host a Stock Market Game Workshop on July 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., providing K-12 educators from across the Mississippi Delta with a unique professional development opportunity focused on financial literacy, investing and economic education.
The workshop, presented in partnership with the Mississippi Council on Economic Education and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, is offered at no cost to participants. Lunch will be provided, and attendees will earn 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
The Stock Market Game allows students to manage a hypothetical investment portfolio while learning about personal finance, economics, investing and the role of financial markets. Through hands-on participation, students develop critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills that support both academic achievement and future career readiness.
Designed as a "teach-the-teacher" experience, the Stock Market Game Workshop equips educators with the knowledge, tools and resources needed to successfully implement the nationally recognized Stock Market Game in their classrooms. Participants will learn how to integrate financial literacy, investment principles, critical thinking and real-world economic concepts into their curriculum through an engaging and competitive learning platform.
Hosted through Delta State University's Finance and Research Lab, the workshop aligns with the university's commitment to experiential learning, workforce development and financial education.
"Financial literacy is an essential life skill, and teachers play a critical role in helping students develop the knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions," said Dr. Glendscene Williams, professor of finance and chair of Delta State's Department of Accountancy, Computer Information Systems and Geospatial Information Technologies. "This workshop provides educators with practical tools and resources they can immediately bring back to their classrooms while helping students connect academic concepts to real-world financial decision-making."
Bringing the Stock Market Game Workshop to the Mississippi Delta expands access to a valuable statewide educational opportunity that has historically been underutilized in the region. By increasing participation among Delta schools, more students will gain exposure to financial literacy and investment concepts that can help prepare them for future academic and career success.
As part of the initiative, Delta State will make its state-of-the-art Finance and Research Lab available as a meeting and collaboration space for participating school teams during the program. The facility provides students with access to a collegiate learning environment while strengthening the university's ongoing efforts to promote financial literacy, college readiness and economic education throughout the region.
Teachers who participate in the workshop and sponsor teams during the Fall 2026 Stock Market Game trading session may also earn rewards for classroom supplies based on team participation.
