Delta State University presents Proclamation of Appreciation to Lee Aylward

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University paid tribute to one of the Mississippi Delta's most distinguished cultural ambassadors recently, presenting Lee Aylward with a formal Proclamation of Appreciation in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the Delta Center for Culture and Learning. The proclamation was presented by President Dr. Daniel J. Ennis and co-signed by Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Leslie L. Griffin during a special reception held in Aylward's honor.

The Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University has long been dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and celebrating the rich history, culture, and traditions of the Mississippi Delta - often celebrated as the Most Southern Place on Earth. Through her leadership and unwavering commitment, Aylward served as a visionary leader, passionate advocate, and cultural ambassador for the region, sharing its unique heritage with visitors, educators, students, and communities near and far.

During her tenure, Aylward advanced the Delta Center's mission by fostering vital partnerships, promoting cultural heritage, and inspiring a deeper appreciation for the people, places, and stories that define the Mississippi Delta. Her work with the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) further extended the Center's reach and impact, elevating awareness of the Delta's incomparable cultural legacy on a national stage.

"Lee Aylward's service to the Delta Center and to the Mississippi Delta is nothing short of extraordinary," said Dr. Daniel J. Ennis, President of Delta State University. "Her dedication has created a lasting legacy that will continue to enrich the Delta Center for Culture and Learning and the Mississippi Delta for generations to come. It is my distinct honor to present this proclamation on behalf of Delta State University in recognition of her remarkable leadership and service."

"Lee has been a tireless champion for the heritage and stories of the Mississippi Delta," added Dr. Leslie L. Griffin, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. "It was our privilege to honor her in this way. Her contributions to the Delta Center, to Delta State University, and to this region speak for themselves, and her impact will be felt for years to come."

The proclamation, presented in a framed keepsake on behalf of the university, recognized Aylward in the following language: "The Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University proudly presents this Proclamation of Appreciation to Lee Aylward in grateful recognition of her extraordinary leadership, dedicated service, and enduring contributions to preserving and promoting the heritage of the Mississippi Delta."

The reception, organized in collaboration with Academic Affairs, brought together university colleagues, community partners, and friends to celebrate Aylward's legacy and wish her well in her future endeavors. Dr. Griffin and Dr. Heather Kovarcik Miller of the Gertrude C. Ford Center for Teaching and Learning were among the collaborators who worked to craft the language of the proclamation, which reflects the esteem in which the entire university community holds Aylward.
