Delta State University to host Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition at Wright Art Center Gallery
CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University's Wright Art Center Gallery will host the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition from March 26 through April 23, highlighting the creative work and accomplishments of student artists across the university's visual arts programs.
A public reception and awards ceremony will be held Thursday, March 26, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibition is one of the university's signature arts events each year, giving student artists an opportunity to present their work in a professional gallery setting while earning recognition for artistic excellence.
As a juried exhibition, submitted works are selected and evaluated by an external art professional. Awards presented through the exhibition include monetary prizes, purchase awards and in-kind gifts across multiple categories.
This year's juror is Lawson King, an independent artist from the Mississippi Delta and former Delta State University art instructor. During his time at Delta State, King taught three-dimensional design and sculpture. His work, shaped by both his Delta upbringing and his background in psychology, has been exhibited at institutions including the Mississippi Museum of Art, the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi and the University of Mississippi Museum, as well as in galleries and outdoor exhibitions across the country.
The Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition serves as an important part of the student experience in the arts at Delta State, offering emerging artists valuable public visibility and the chance to have their work reviewed by an accomplished arts professional.
The Wright Art Center Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The gallery is closed on weekends, holidays and during semester breaks.
