Prior to joining Delta State, Coleman served as Executive Director of Admissions at Virginia State University, where his leadership was instrumental in achieving the institution's largest freshmen class in its history for three consecutive years. Under his direction, VSU saw a 55% increase in new student deposits while simultaneously raising academic admission standards, as well as a 64% boost in first-time freshmen and transfer enrollment. In addition to his enrollment success, Coleman chaired several institutional committees, including the Retention Committee, Strategic Enrollment Plan (SEP) Committee, and the Student Success Committee, where he led cross-functional teams focused on improving student outcomes and institutional performance.
"Dr. Coleman brings a dynamic and student-focused vision to Delta State," said DSU President Dr. Daniel J. Ennis. "His depth of experience in enrollment strategy, student success, and data-driven decision-making aligns with our mission and commitment to providing access and opportunity to students across the region."
Coleman's career spans leadership roles in admissions, student success, advisement, and academic instruction. He has held key positions at institutions including South College, Life University, and the University of West Georgia. His teaching experience includes courses in Psychology and Freshman Studies, where he emphasizes experiential learning and student development.
At Delta State, Coleman will lead the University's strategic enrollment initiatives, working across departments to enhance recruitment, admissions, retention, and student engagement. He will also oversee the integration of cutting-edge technologies, data systems, and student support services that contribute to institutional growth and student success.
Coleman holds a Doctor of Education in Student Affairs Administration and Leadership from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, a Master of Education in Professional Counseling and College Student Affairs from the University of West Georgia, and a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences from South Carolina State University.
A recognized speaker, author, and thought leader, Coleman has presented nationally on topics related to access, leadership, and enrollment trends. He is a proud member of several professional associations, including the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
"I am excited to join the Delta State family and contribute to a legacy of academic excellence and opportunity," said Coleman. "I look forward to partnering with our students, faculty, staff, and community to advance the University's strategic goals and continue creating pathways to success."
