Dr. Lee Inmon Dean Announced as speaker for Fall 2024 Commencement at Delta State University

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University is proud to announce Dr. Lee Inmon Dean, a distinguished mathematician and educator, as the keynote speaker for its Fall 2024 Commencement ceremonies. The ceremonies will take place on Friday, December 13, at the Bologna Performing Arts Center, with sessions scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

A native of Leland, Dean is a beloved member of the Delta State community, having served as a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics for two decades. She earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics from Delta State University before pursuing both her master's and Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Mississippi.

Dean began her professional career as a Senior Pricing Analyst with Kemper Specialty Insurance Company, where she specialized in statistical modeling for product development and pricing strategies. She continued as a consultant in research and development for the company until 2015.

In 2004, Dean returned to Delta State as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics. Her dedication to teaching and scholarship earned her promotions to Associate Professor in 2010 and Full Professor in 2024. Her accolades include being named the Mississippi College Teacher of the Year by the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics in 2022 and receiving Delta State's prestigious S.E. Kossman Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award in 2024.

In addition to her teaching, Dean has held leadership roles as president of the Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Mu Epsilon Honor Societies. She has served as the institution's Dual Credit Coordinator for Mathematics and Sciences since 2018 and currently oversees all Academic Dual Credit programs at Delta State. Her numerous presentations and publications in mathematics education further highlight her dedication to advancing the field.

Dean is married to James Dean and is the proud mother of three children: Wil, Charlie, and Caroline.

This year's Fall Commencement will celebrate the achievements of 484 candidates for degrees, including 183 bachelor's degrees and 301 graduate degrees across multiple disciplines. Delta State University extends heartfelt congratulations to these graduates as they embark on their professional journeys.
