DSU secures legislative funding for campus improvements and educational initiatives

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University is pleased to announce significant funding allocations from the Mississippi Legislature for the upcoming fiscal year. Delta State has been awarded substantial funds aimed at expanding educational opportunities and improving its facilities. Key allocations include:

$1 million for the renovation and upgrade of campus buildings. This investment will enhance the learning environment and ensure campus facilities meet the highest standards for Delta State students, faculty, and staff.

$6 million specifically designated for the renovation of Ward Hall and Cleveland Hall. These funds will be used to undertake essential renovation and related work to these historic buildings.

$4.02 million for repair and renovation projects allocated through the Capital Expense Fund. These funds, appropriated through Senate Bill 2468, Section 5, will support critical infrastructure improvements.

$2.5 million to construct and operate a preK-6th grade school for Bolivar County.

DSU President Dr. Daniel J. Ennis expressed his gratitude for the legislative support, saying, "We are immensely grateful to the Mississippi Legislature for their continued investment in higher education and for recognizing the critical needs of Delta State University. These funds will allow us to make significant improvements to our campus infrastructure and to expand educational opportunities for our students."

Additionally, the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) has recommended salary increases of at least 2% of total payroll for the universities. After consulting with Interim Vice President for Finance and Administration Larry Wakefield, Ennis decided to increase the amount to 3%. Reappointment letters and contracts issued by July 1 will reflect currently budgeted salaries, with revised salaries expected to be in effect by the end of September.

The 3% payroll increase will be distributed based on market and performance indicators. Discussions with Faculty Senate leadership are ongoing to ensure the raises are allocated effectively.

"These steps are part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a sustainable budget and managing the challenges facing higher education," said Ennis. "By avoiding tuition increases and offering competitive salaries, we aim to recruit and retain both students and employees, ensuring the long-term success of Delta State University."
