Delta State University Presents Confluence at the Wright Art Center

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University's Wright Art Center presents Confluence, an exhibition featuring work by artists Helene Fielder, Rick Anderson and Joe Abide, on view January 22 through February 19.

Confluence brings together ceramic sculpture, atmospheric abstraction and pattern-based painting to explore shared ideas of place, memory, rhythm and personal expression. Though working in distinct media and visual languages, the three artists' works intersect through their engagement with form, surface and the ways lived experience is translated into art.

Helene Fielder's ceramic sculptures blend vessel-like forms with playful, imaginative structures. Her use of bright color, carved geometric lines and shifting silhouettes suggests floral and figurative references, encouraging viewers to move around each piece to experience changing relationships between interior and exterior space.

Rick Anderson's paintings range from quiet, mist-filled landscapes to works that combine detailed drawing with expansive fields of tone and color. Through soft edges, layered washes and subtle light, his imagery evokes rain, fog and historic Delta architecture gradually emerging from memory and atmosphere.

Joe Abide contributes paintings and colorful patterned drawings that emphasize repetition, abstract geometry and visual rhythm. His dense networks of shapes and lines create surfaces that read like coded narratives, suggesting remembered experiences and stories without direct representation.

Confluence is on view at the Fielding Wright Art Center Gallery on the campus of Delta State University, located at 1003 West Sunflower Road in Cleveland. The public is invited to attend a free closing reception on Thursday, February 19 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The gallery is closed on weekends, holidays and during semester breaks.
